German sports(y)cars? They still make an audi TT, a Z4 exists, the Mercedes SLK is still a car...Porsche seems to be doing ok with cayman but it’s half their age and just released a rack variant to keep interest up...these others, i’m not even sure if a show floor salesman could direct me to one adn their marketing is ‘maybe a pamphlet from last year’.
Lately I never hear about them, rarely see them...are they they just forgettable....seriously? Are they Crap? Are we just so spoiled in the hot hatches and sedans that we dont care anymore for the ‘girl next door’ sports cars. I’d even say the Cayman and boxster are off-radar except the GT4 porsche puts out required a press release....

I’m guessing there’s not a big market for a tiny expensive sports coupe anymore.

The SLK seems a bit old and frankly isn’t that pretty and BMW never gave us a hot version of the new Z4. Makes me sad.

I think we all just overlook them.. I know the Z4 is still a pretty decent car to drive, especially with the turbo inline six. I have been seeing a higher amount of Audi TT’s lately though.

I’m doing my part, I just bought one. At 18 years it isn’t exactly new though.

Usually a good guess for when you don’t see people selling something.

Its too bad really. I’ve been looking at them for a second car. Actually the lack of interest may be better for me, as it lowers the prices. I dunno, I just like them.

Well the TT is decent enough I suppose but as you pointed out a good hot hatch will do everything a TT will and more. The Z4 lost all its cred when BMW went FMR (Folding Metal Retard) on it and as such dropped the real coupé, the real roadster and the relative lightweightedness. Finally the SLK was always the most meh small sporty-ish german car with no saving grace aside from the AMG models and the fact that you could buy one with a diesel and a 6-speed manual for a short period of time.

define hot version....they make an Z4M, and they have a twinturbo v-6 option. like track-spec?

The Slk was really meh, even the AMG i drove was boring as hell and didn’t feel ‘small’.
but they sold the jesus-tears out of those and the Z3’s back in the day.

the Mercedes SLK is still a car
Hopefully not for much longer.

Unless something slipped by me, I don’t think they make a Z4M. They make a Z4-35 IS. It has a twin turbo I-6, but its about 100hp down compared to the one in the M3/4.

Not currently produced but there is the Z4 M roadster and M coupe. S54 goodness in both.

Definitely goodness in both, but theres no new hotness. IMO they should have done a Z4M for the last couple years with the M3 motor.

Hahaha S65 coupe/roadster? That would be amazing!

M cars will slip by you if you let them... The Z4 M was powered by a 3.2-litre straight-six engine 343 hp (
S54B32
). Only about 43 Hp up over the turbo car and ‘purist’ Straight-6 to boot but they stopped making them with that last facelift i guess???

the boxster/cayman is one of the best handling (if not the) best handling cars I’ve ever driven

The TT just got replaced. Jalopnik reviewed it, liked it.
The other two probably are getting to end of life, but with SUVs selling can you blame them?
